The tippet or preaching scarf is worn by Anglican clergy as an alternative to the stole with Choir dress and also by clergy in various Protestant denominations.

Unlike priests and deacons, bishops do not have the option of a scarf or stole with choir dress, instead they wear a chimere.

Anglican priest and deacons weare a black scarf (unless they are wearing a stole) while licensed readers wear a blue scarf. Unlike a stole if a deacon wears a scarf they wear it over both sholders. Protestant ministers of certain denominations such as the Church of Scotland wear a black scarf simmilar to Anglican priests and deacons.
